Bunker Basics: 2018 Year in Review

Unprecedented Events

Another year is behind us, but what a year it was! 2018 brought us many unprecedented events, many of which involved the tech industry, geopolitical tensions, and the economy. We listened to Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook’s CEO, provide testimony regarding a foreign government using a technology platform to influence our presidential election. While I’ve expressed fear about how powerful Facebook is becoming, the public seems to be growing concerned about its power as well. Facebook’s stock price dropped nearly 20% over the course of 2018. Geopolitical tensions in the East were not limited to those with Russia. A trade war with China has led to heightened rhetoric from our government and increased economic volatility. These issues have carried over into 2019, so I intend to provide you with continued updates and commentary as they continue to develop. Here’s my Bunker Basics 2018 year in review.

The Launch of Bunker Basics

Though 2018 was a turbulent year, I had the personal pleasure of launching Bunker Basics. Among other things, we discussed Bunkers, how to develop a SHTF Escape Plan, and 5 Things to Do to Survive an EMP. I reviewed a diverse set of books, such as One Second After and The Fifth Risk. Both of these books are available in the Bunker Basics Store. I also had the rare opportunity to interview Daisy Luther. Daisy is a prepper who has written multiple books and manages a number of prepper websites.

Posting on Bunker Basics has been an incredibly enjoyable experience in what was otherwise a year filled with negative news. While the continued negativity gives us reason to prepare for the worst, I certainly hope that 2019 is filled with more positivity.

What’s on the Horizon for 2019?

Over the course of the year, I plan to further expand Bunker Basics. I will create a monthly newsletter, a book publication, and a coffee business. While these three initiatives are far from complete, I’m sharing them now in hopes of receiving your ideas. In the monthly newsletter, I’ll highlight the Bunker Basics blog posts that generated the most conversation and interest among our readers. The book publication and coffee business will be intertwined. While I’m sure most of you are unfamiliar with my obsession with coffee, I bet you all recognize how rare coffee may become after SHTF. My coffee business will be centered around this idea. I will provide you with more information as the year progresses. In summary, Happy New Year! I wish you all the best and look forward to engaging with you throughout 2019.
